SUPPLEMENTARY AUTHORIZATION PROGRAM IN ART
The
Supplementary Authorization in Art requires that 10 non-remedial upper
division, semester units, or 20 semester units, in Art be successfully completed. Units of course work must be
distributed across three areas of content:
(1) drawing/painting
(2)
art history/appreciation
(3)
crafts.
Course
work must be successfully completed in both drawing and painting under content
area (1). Area (2) requires work
in Art History and/or art appreciation.
The area of crafts requires work in sculpture, and/or printmaking,
and/or ceramics and/or photography.
There is no "crafts" course taught at C.S.U., Chico. The courses listed here in area (3) are
courses commonly taught in the secondary schools.
For those
completing the 20 unit program:
LOWER
DIVISION
Unit
distributions are as follows: 4
lower division semester units or 2 upper division semester units
in
each of the three subject matter content areas, minimum.
Lower
division content area (1) Drawing
courses may be chosen from Art 3A Basic Drawing; and
(Drawing/Painting) Art
3B Basic Drawing. Art 33, Beginning
Painting, must be
completed
as well.
Lower
division content area (2) Art
History courses may be chosen from Art 1A, Art History Survey;
(Art History/Appreciation) Art
1B, Art History Survey; Art 2A, Far Eastern Art Survey.
Art
4, Art Appreciation, a course
for non-art majors, may also be
chosen. Art 15A, Design, or Art 15B, Design, also may
be
used as art appreciation course choices.
Lower
division content area (3) Art
6, Beginning Ceramics; Art
35, Introduction to Sculpture;
Art 38,
(Crafts) Introduction
to Printmaking; and Art 91, Introduction
to Art
Photography ,
may be chosen.
UPPER
DIVISION
Upper
division content area (1) Any
intermediate (100 level) or advanced (200 level ) courses in
(Drawing/Painting) Drawing and/or Painting, except for independent
study courses,
may
be applied.
Upper
division content area (2) Any
intermediate (100 level) or advanced (200 level) courses in
(Art History/Appreciation) Art
History, except for independent study courses, may be applied.
Upper
division content area (3) Any
intermediate (100 level) or advanced (200 level) courses in
(Crafts) Ceramics,
and/or Sculpture and/or Printmaking and/or Art
Photography,
and/or Computer Assisted Art, except for
Independent
study courses, may be applied.
Courses completed must
meet the unit distribution criteria listed above (at least 4 units lower
division, or 2 units upper division course work in a single category). A total
of at least 20 units must be successfully completed.
For
those applying 10 non-remedial upper division semester units to the supplementary authorization, courses may
be chosen from non-remedial intermediate (100 level) or advanced (200 level)
courses listed in the Art section of the current University Catalog. Course
work must be distributed across the three subject matter content areas listed
above (at least 2 units per category.)
