1995 - 1999     Art teacher, Grades 1 - 8, St. Matthew School, Champaign, Illinois

Duties involve teaching introductory and intermediate studio courses, an integrated arts course, and slide-lecture art appreciation course with the concept of multi-cultural art for students in grades 1 - 8. Other activities included the development of models for elementary and secondary art curricula sequentially consistent with the experimental mission of the St. Matthew School

1995 - 1997     1st grade classroom teacher, Japanese Saturday School, Normal, Illinois

This school was developed to support the education of Japanese children who live in the U.S. (from 1st - 9th grades) due to their parentsí job. Duties involved teaching Japanese and Arithmetic based on the Japanese national curriculum to prepare to go back to Japan in the future. Other activities concerned the development of Japanese and Arithmetic curricula integrated with art to learn such academic subjects with a visual thinking strategy.

1991 - 1994     7th grade classroom teacher/ Japanese teacher (Grade 6th & 7th), Japanese Saturday School, Chicago, Illinois.

This school was also developed to support the education of Japanese children who live in the U.S. (K-12). Duties involved teaching Japanese based on the Japanese national curriculum. Other activities included the development of a Japanese curriculum integrated with art based on a visual thinking strategy to encourage students who do not have motivation to learn Japanese since some students do not plan to go back to Japan.

An introductory art education laboratory course for early childhood and elementary education majors emphasizing materials, processes, and activities applicable to those grades. Lectures concern the rationale for art in general curriculum in schools, childrenís artistic development, sequential art curriculum planning, and classroom management.

19999 - Present     Assistant professor, Art Appreciation

An introductory art and art appreciation course for non - art majors emphasizing visual thinking strategies based on aesthetic developmental theory. Duties involve teaching general art history and the concept of the elements of art (line, shape, color, and texture) with artworks and reproductions.

1999     Instructor, Multi-media Drawing

An introductory drawing course for adults who have little or no knowledge of drawing techniques. This class is designed to learn basic techniques of drawing with diverse materials (e.g. pencil, charcoal, pastel and pen & ink).

An introductory art and art appreciation course for early childhood and elementary education majors. Duties involve teaching general art history, aesthetics, and art criticism with art educational resources through a computer network in addition to traditional resources such as museums and libraries.

1997 ó 1999     Instructor, Multi-media Watercolor

An intermediate and advanced watercolor course for adults who already have some experience with watercolor. This class is designed to develop and encourage studentsí own styles through diverse watercolor techniques based on popular art movements, such as Impressionism, Expressionism, and so on.

1994 - 1995     Supervisor of student teachers of 1st & 2nd grades, Saturday School Art Program

A pre-student teaching laboratory experience for juniors and seniors in Art Education to teach 1st & 2nd graders. Responsibilities included demonstration of effective teaching strategies, supervision, observation, evaluation of student teaching, assisting in preparing curriculum, lesson plans and subsequent activities, and contributing experience and expertise during seminars.
