COURSE DESCRIPTION:  

Philosophy and procedures of the development of adolescent art.  Survey  of Art /Art Education literature, techniques and materials.  2 hours lecture, 2 hours activity.  Special fee required ($20).

COURSE OBJECTIVES:  

1.         -to increase awareness and understanding of historical and contemporary

            frames of reference in the professional field of Art Education.

2.         -to promote understanding of the attributes and needs of the adolescent in

            relation to Art Education.

3.         -to provide an interface with professionals in the field through professional

            organizations and other resources and services.

4.         -to provide the opportunity for the synthesis of skills, awarenesses and values

            gained through the Art Major toward addressing the interests, skills and

            potentials of adolescents through Visual Art learning and expression.

 PROCEDURES:  

Lecture content and supplementary materials will be unified through individual and group projects designed to focus on the developmental needs and diversity of adolescents.

REQUIRED TEXT:  Class readings will be assigned from a variety of sources (some are provided and some are on reserve in the Ira Latour Media Center).

Miscellaneous Course Fees: 

A $20  fee will be charged for class  materials.  The fee must be paid by the fourth week of class or you will lose all university services.  There may be some items that you will need to purchase individually.

ATTENDANCE:  UPON MISSING THE SECOND CLASS MEETING, AND FOR EACH ABSENCE  THEREAFTER,  COURSE GRADE WILL DROP 10% (up to 20% total).

GRADING CRITERIA:  

GRADES ARE BASED UPON PERCENTAGE OF POSSIBLE POINTS ATTAINED. See the University catalogue for

standard grading designations.
