About This Site

For a long time, the field of art education has ignored popular visual culture in spite of the fact that it has a great influence on children. Times have changed. In 1998, the Ministry of Education and Science in Japan proposed to adopt popular visual culture in the namtional art educational curriculum (manga, illustration, photo, video, computers, etc) to help students express thoughts and ideas and hopes for the future.

It is time to discuss and share our ideas of what visual cultureis, how it influences children, and finally the possibility of implementing visual culture in art education curricula.

I hope this site will be a good forum for discussing this powerful influence on children's aesthetic, artistic, and cognitive developments.
